5th Annual Canoe Trip

The 5th Annual Canoe Trip was a great success, with 26 canoeists enjoying a leisurely paddle down the North Saskatchewan River. The eager participants started the trip with a picnic lunch at Laurier Park (the launch site), then paddled 16 kilometers through the heart of Edmonton, arriving at Goldbar Park 2.5 hours later. The weather was cloudy but warm, the breeze was light, and the scenery was breathtaking. There is no better view of downtown Edmonton than from the river. An added bonus was having Sarah McLaughlin serenade the flotilla as she was doing her sound check for the upcoming Folk Fest at Gallagher Park!

An additional 37 members joined the paddlers for a BBQ at Laurier Park at the conclusion of the trip. A great way to end a wonderful day on the river.

It seems that everyone was taking photos on the trip and at the BBQ! You can see the photos by going to the “Photos” page and clicking on the link to “2009 Canoe Day”.  Thanks to everyone who submitted photos.

Many thanks to Gordon & Esther Oaks, Art Switner, Yvonne Rokosh and Mike Tansey for their help in making this event a success.  And thanks to Bob Larson for taking the videos of the intrepid group.
