Sun Peaks 1 Jan 8 – 13, 2012

Sun Peaks Tour #1 was successfully concluded on January 13! Despite multiple changes to personal itineraries, 57 participants had a brilliant tour.

The bus riders congregated at Millwoods Golf Course parking lot, south-east corner, well before 6:30 a.m. and multiple hands had the bus “stuffed” before 7:00 a.m. All were present and accounted for and we were headed west. The highway was in good winter driving condition most of the way. Even with the usual 3 stops we arrived at the Coast Sundance Lodge ahead of schedule and in daylight. Distribution of participant packages, unloading and settling in went off smoothly.

The Welcome Party at the Hearthstone Lodge Banquet Room was an excellent beginning for our Tour. In addition to our usual eager participants, we had 10 new Club members who joined right in to mingle, sample the large Pasta Buffet and prepare for some great outdoor exercise. We had sunshine 3 out of 4 days with fresh snow overnight once. All lifts and runs were open and groomed rotationally giving skiers multiple choices. The daily temperatures were quite manageable with the extra layers that members always bring along and a timely inversion layer kept the temperatures moderate. Several cross country skiers and one snow shoer mixed in with the “downhillers.” What an inclusive group!!!

The Group Dinner was also held at the Hearthstone Lodge in their banquet room. Attendance was 100%. This venue promoted a more casual dining style. It allowed members to move and mingle and there was no problem in dealing with housekeeping issues. Old habits die hard so even though bus loading was scheduled for 7:00 a.m. with departure at 7:30 a.m., check out and organizing of “stuff” began just after 6:00 a.m. Consequently, before 7:30 a.m. we were all loaded, accounted for, and wished a safe drive home with a large “Thank You” for returning to Sun Peaks Coast Sundance Lodge. On top of all this good news, the best news was No One Was Injured.

I would also like to thank the Executive members in attendance for their help and support.
