We were a hearty bunch of 60 skiers with 51 taking the bus and enjoying Ken Watson, our bus driver, tend the wheel! Thanks to the many joke tellers who added humour to both long trips. Thanks also to the many helpful people who loaded and unloaded the baggage and skis reducing the time for these tasks and saving those whose backs are not as strong as they could be. J
The Welcome Dinner was attended by all 60 skiers with four (4) of our club executives in attendance. Tuesday evening saw a nice crowd sharing in a singing party, with thanks to Bruce Walker for plucking those strings so well! The Wednesday Club Dinner was excellent with lots a great variety of food and a superb dessert. At the Club Dinner, those who had not had a choice of more than one pasta at the Welcome Dinner were offered a free drink and to be first in line at the Club Dinner. More than a few laughs were had at the dinners, on the hill, in the hot tub and at Bottom’s Pub.
The weather was good (from minus 7 on arrival and up to 0 the final day). High winds on a few days caused the Crystal and Burfield lifts to be closed on occasion, so avid skiers found alternative challenges. Many snow ghosts that were there on our arrival were blown away.
There was not any new snow so thanks to the Sun Peaks One trip for not skiing it all off even if they left much of the hill rather hard packed. A few said the double black runs had however been left with lots of deep soft snow. The plentiful and helpful ski hosts skied as fast as the groups wanted to go. J The mountain was alive with our very active members and the accents of many more Australian and New Zealand folks than in the past.
The hotel staff was most efficient and helpful. Marc and others at the front desk did whatever they could to assist in making our stay pleasant. The lift ticket staff was also very cheerful and efficient.
There were new skiing partners and friends discovered on the trip. Suggestions were requested and offered for future trips that will be forwarded to the appropriate people for follow up as necessary.
Thanks to Kathy Robinson as well as Pat and Bill Campbell who helped organize the tour manual and making the initial bookings for bus, hotel, meals and lift tickets – your efforts made the Tour Host tasks easier than they would have otherwise been.
